A week-long programme of political and cultural events will kick off at venues across Dalston on July 13 under plans being drawn up for a People’s Festival.
More details of the Dalston People’s Festival have emerged ahead of a third planning meeting taking place this week.
Proposed events include a ‘Human Library’ where visitors would meet Dalston residents such as artists, asylum seekers, bankers, politicians and students who would talk about their lives.
A programme of folk music and poetry is also being planned at the Eastern Curve Garden, while Dalston venues are invited to submit ideas for events to be included in the festival programme.
The Arcola Theatre and local pubs are among the venues to have expressed an interest in hosting events.
This week’s planning meeting will include a workshop on funding applications to help raise funds for events to take place during the festival week.
The Dalston People’s Festival is being organised by community group Hackney Unites and is intended to bring together the various groups living within Dalston.
